For all of you that understand, it is a great honour to get so far in Selection as the fan dance – and to lose your life at such an advanced stage, just before Continuation is such a massive loss.
There are many calling for the chain of command to be strung up and left to the dogs but I see it a different way……which may not be palatable to some and does not in any way take away from the massive loss a family will undoubtedly feel.
When we try for Selection we know it will be arduous….and then some. It is ….and sometimes even worse than that. But that is the whole point. And that is what makes us the best in the world bar none.
We know the risks and we know we may leave loved ones behind. But we still do it. We still, despite that risk and the chance of leaving our families in pain want to be badged.
So I say celebrate that they tried, celebrate that they got so far and celebrate that we respect them enormously and that they will never be forgotten.
We are the Pilgrims, master; we shall go
Always a little further; it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea.
